Kansas felon back in jail after crash in stolen vehicle

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on multiple allegations after an arrest.

Just before 7a.m. May 8, police responded to a reported injury vehicle crash near SW 16th and Buchanan in Topeka, according to police spokesperson Rosie Nichols. It was reported that a vehicle struck three detached garages and finally came to a stop.

Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle, which was determined to be stolen, that had crashed into a detached garage, causing damage. The driver later identified as Christopher W. Darnall, 34, of Topeka, ran from the crash and officers located him nearby.

Darnall was transported to a local hospital to be medically cleared and then was arrested and booked on requested charges of Possession of Stolen Property, Driving without a License, interference, DUI, Failure to Stop at Accident and a Felony Warrant.  Darnall has previous convictions for burglary, theft, obstruction, flee or attempt to elude and aggravated escape from custody.
