ATV driver dies after crash with ambulance transporting a patient

KANSAS CITY —One person died in an accident just before 3:30a.m. Sunday in Kansas City.

Investigators determined, an ambulance was south on Broadway at West 32nd Street when an ATV, with no headlights, appeared on the roadway doing "tricks," according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.

The driver of the ATV accelerated and lost control and crashed into the ambulance. The ATV driver was ejected off the vehicle and was struck by the ambulance.

The ATV driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and front passenger in the ambulance were not injured. The patient in the back of the ambulance was not injured in the crash. Another ambulance responded and completed the patient transport. This is fatality #86 in KCMO if 2024, according to DiMartino.
