SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a fatal officer shooting.

Just after 9a.m. Wednesday, the United State's Marshal's service and a Wichita Police Department SWAT team learned that a 45-year-old man with a warrant for 8 counts for sexual exploitation of a child was at an apartment in the 9200 Block of East Harry in Wichita, according to Wichita Police Department Captain Aaron Moses.

Officer also learned that the suspect was armed and had stated he was going to get into a 'shootout with police when he was located.'

Around noon, the suspect left the apartment and officers attempted to stop him in the 8900 Block of East Cherry Creek in Wichita.  Police identified themselves to the suspect and told the suspect he was under arrest. The suspect produced a firearm which led to one Wichita Police Department officer firing his weapon at the suspect.  The suspect was struck multiple times.

Officers began life saving measures and called for EMS. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Sedgwick County Sheriff's office will be in charge of the officer shooting, according to Moses.

Cherry Creek Street between Capris and Cypress Street in the neighborhood was closed while police investigate. Police did not release the name of the suspect.
