SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man after his child was found in possession of illegal narcotics at school.
Just after 1pm Wednesday, a Sheriff’s Office deputy/school resource officer and members of the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office’s Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) responded to an elementary school in southwest Shawnee County after a student was found to have inadvertently brought illegal narcotics to school, in a backpack.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the student found items in his backpack that did not belong to him and immediately told a school staff member. The staff member then notified school administration, who promptly contacted law enforcement.
Deputies went to the child's home in the 6500 BLock of SW 21st Street in Topeka and arrested the father of the student identified as 39-year-old Christopher G. Hernandez of Topeka,
Hernandez was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on charges of possession of a hallucinogenic drug and endangering a child.
