Police capture Kan. suspect in New Year's Day knife attack robbery

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement investigating a knife attack robbery have made an arrest.

At 1:30AM on January 1st police officers investigated a disturbance that had occurred at an apartment in the 1200 block North 4th Street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

Two female victims, ages 37 and 46, reported a disturbance had occurred in their residence with a man they knew. During the disturbance both victims were threatened and injured by the man with a knife. One of the victims was treated and released from the hospital with an injury from the knife. The suspect took both of the victims cellphones by force and left the residence before police arrived.

At 3:30p.m. on March 20, police located the suspect identified as 42-year-old Michael T. Leach of Atchison at a residence in the 1000 block Kearney and he was taken into custody on a District Court warrant for aggravated robbery, robbery, aggravated intimidation of a witness, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal threat, and battery.  He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
