
WYANDOTTE COUNTY—A Kansas City, Kansas police officer injured after being struck by a vehicle involved in a police pursuit on Tuesday morning has died, according to a statement from the Kansas Association of Chief's of Police.
Just after midnight, police were called to a report of gunshots in the area of Campus Boulevard and State Avenue, according to a media release.
First responders found a vehicle possibly involved with gunfire. Officers reported the suspect was armed with a handgun.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled and a pursuit ensued. As officers deployed stop sticks, the driver instead swerved and struck an officer. The officer was hospitalized with 'life-threatening' injuries and later died. The suspect was eventually taken into custody after he crashed his vehicle. Police have not released the name of the officer or the suspect driver.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and KHP are in charge of the investigation.
