KANSAS CITY —A child was injured in a fire that occurred just after 11p.m. Thursday in Kansas City, Missouri.
Kansas Fire crews responded to the report of a fire in an a vacant apartment the 600 block of Forest, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.
On arrival crews reported heavy fire from a three-story apartment building. Defensive operations were established using multiple aerial master streams. It took several hours to bring the fire under control.
Emergency crews treated a child who lived in the building next door for smoke inhalation and later transported the child to Children's Mercy for evaluation, according to Hopkins.
One firefighter was also transported to the hospital for minor injuries and evaluation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
