The vehicle was connected to a drug investigation.  Deputies approached the occupants, identified as 19-year-old Quayland Johnson and 18-year-old Trinity Schlegel. Both had outstanding warrants in Montgomery County, leading deputies to take them into custody.

During the initial encounter with Johnson, deputies observed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle, which appeared to be used for smoking fentanyl pills, also knows as "Dirty 30s."

Johnson was also being sought in connection with a narcotics-related search warrant that had been served at 633 W. Beech Street in Independence, Kansas.

After their arrest, Johnson and Schlegel were transported to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections, where they were booked on their respective warrants. The Jeep was impounded and transported to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office for further examination. Following a search warrant, deputies found additional drug paraphernalia and more fentanyl pills inside the vehicle.
