Sheriff: Kan. man tried to hide stolen skid-steer loader

JACKSON COUNTY– Law enforcement authorities investigating the theft of a Volvo skid-steer loader in early morning hours of July 21 have a suspect in custody.

Just before 6a.m. Thursday, deputies and detectives started their investigation into the reported theft of the loader taken from a business in Holton, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

By Thursday evening, deputies recovered the skid-steer loader just off Butler Road near the community of Rock Creek in Jefferson County , according to Morse.

The skid-steer loader was hidden in a wooded remote part of the property. Deputies also recovered a Doolittle trailer that was used in the theft. The trailer was reported stolen out of Holt County, Missouri.

 Deputies arrested suspect, Brian Ray Stevenson, 50, of Topeka on a Jackson County District Court warrant for felony theft and possession of methamphetamine.

Further arrests are anticipated, according to Morse.The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and the Topeka Police Department assisted with the case.
