SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal shooting have captured a man wanted for alleged murder.
According to online jail records, police booked 43-year-old Larry Powell into custody Monday evening on requested charges second degree murder and criminal use of weapons.
On February 21, police were dispatched to a shooting at a motel in the 5700 block of West Kellogg Drive in Wichita, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.
First responders located a 50-year-old man unconscious and not breathing with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Officers began providing life-saving efforts until EMS arrived.
The victim, from Santa Cruz, California, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The investigation revealed that the victim had a verbal altercation with Powell. That argument turned physical at which point the Powell allegedly started shooting and striking the victim once.
On Feb. 22, police asked the public for help to find Powell in connection with the incident. Police have not released details on the arrest.
