Kan. man accused after 2-year-old boy injured in shooting

TOPEKA—Law enforcement authorities  investigating a shooting that seriously injured a 2-year-old boy have arrested  Aneis L. Brown 22 of Topeka.

Just after 2a.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to a local hospital after a 2-year-old had been driven there in a private vehicle and was suffering from serious gunshot injuries, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.

Investigators believe the shooting occurred in the 800 block of SW 11th Street in Topeka. All parties involved are believed to have been located and police are working to learn what happened.

Brown is being held in the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Aggravated Endangering A Child; Reckless Situation, Criminal Poss Of Firearm By Felon ;Felony Conv Less Than 5 Years and Possession of hallucinogenic drug.

“This is the third shooting we’ve responded to in the last few days in which a child has been injured.," Said Topeka Police Chief Bryan Wheeles.  "This concerning trend cannot continue. Gun safety is a community responsibility and we must all do our part to keep each other, and especially young children safe."
