Arson fire under investigation at SW Kansas home

FINNEY COUNTY —Fire officials in Finney County are investigating an arson fire.

Just before 6 a.m. on Monday, the Garden City Fire Department was dispatched to the report of house fire 1027 N. Boots Road, Garden City, Kansas, according to a media release.

Fire personnel identified a single-story home with heavy fire visible from all windows. Personnel established a water supply, completed initial knockdown of the fire, and completed the primary and secondary searches of the structure. The home was confirmed to be vacant.

The fire was called under control at approximately 6:02 a.m.

Fire Marshal Gene Robertson notified the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office of the fire and requested assistance with the investigation. During the investigation, Accelerant Detection Canine Karma alerted multiple areas of the home for possible accelerants. The cause of the fire was determined to be arson.

No injuries were reported, and no damage estimates are known at this time.
