Police ID Kansas City man who died after violent assault

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement investigating a homicide in Kansas City have identified the victim as 35-year-old Johnathan Rodgers, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.

Just before 7:30p.m. October 18, patrol officers were dispatched to the 3700 Block of Independence Avenue on the report of someone with a weapon, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.

Officers located Rodgers suffering from bodily trauma. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

At the same time, officers were dispatched to the area of 6th and Monroe on an ambulance en route call.  It was determined both of these calls were related. The original incident occurred at 6th and Monroe. This is being investigated as a homicide
