KANSAS CITY—A jury convicted Dmarius M. Bozeman in the fatal shooting in February 2021 of Khasheme Strother, who was inside a Kansas City residence on W. Pennway with her three children, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
In September, a Jackson County jury convicted 34-year-old Bozeman of Murder 2nd Degree, Armed Criminal Action, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child 1st Degree, one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child 2nd Degree and three additional counts of Armed Criminal Action.
The judge on Friday sentenced the defendant to 25 years on Murder 2nd Degree and five years on the other counts. He set the 25-year sentence and the 5-year sentence to run consecutively for a total of 30 years.
According to court records, Kansas City police responded to the 1900 block of W. Pennway Terrace on a reported shooting. Police found two deceased adults and another injured adult. The injured adult stated he had called 911. In the 911 recording he indicates he shot the adult male, Ramond Hill, 19 in self defense and that he also shot Strother after he was jumped.
Bozeman said Strother was his girlfriend and the other victim was her son. Three juveniles were in the residence at the time of the shooting. Bozeman told police he had been in a struggle with Strother and he fired what he thought were two warning shots. Soon after he saw she had been shot. Bozeman said he fired at Hill after he came back inside the residence and fired shots at him.
