LABETTE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal shooting involving two men who lived toghther.
Just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Parsons Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of Southwest 10th Street in Parsons, according to a media release.
Lieutenant Kyle Wiford was one of the first officers to arrive on scene. He quickly identified and safely detained the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Billy Ray Duncan, who was taken into custody without incident.
The victim identified as 35-year-old Gabriel Kaine Duncan, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Labette County Deputy Coroner. Both suspect and victim lived at the residence.
Duncan is being held on requested charges of first-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon, according to online jail records.
He has previous conviction for aggravated endangerment of a child, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement and for drugs, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
Detectives and officers remain actively engaged in processing the scene, conducting interviews, and gathering evidence. The investigation remains ongoing, and formal charges will be determined by the Labette County Attorney's Office following a review of the complete investigation.
