HUTCHINSON, Kan. — As respiratory season is upon us, the Reno County Health Department is alerting the public of an increase in pertussis/whooping cough cases in the U.S. this year so far.

Preliminary data from the CDC shows that there are five times as many cases this year (about 23,500) so far when compared to the same time in 2023. "These numbers are higher than what was seen in 2019 before the pandemic and we have seen a few cases here in Reno County."
TDaP is a routine vaccine that includes Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis and is recommended to receive it every 10 years. If you are not up to date, please contact your health care provider, pharmacy or the County Health Department for a booster.
