DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement were able to safely arrest a Kansas man after witnesses say he went to his former place of employment and brandished a weapon.
Just before 1p.m. Feb. 17, police were called to a business in the 1100 block of Horizon Drive in Lawrence, according to police spokesperson Laura McCabae.
The suspect, employees say, was recently terminated and came in making threatening remarks, showed them he had a gun, and left after seeing that the woman he believed was responsible for his termination wasn’t there.
Officers with the Lawrence Police Department and dispatchers attempted to make phone contact with the suspect, but the line disconnected or went to voicemail. Officers learned where the man was and attempted to arrest him in the hallway of the apartment complex. The man physically resisted arrest and attempted to retreat back inside the apartment.
To deter further escalation, or injury to the officers or innocent occupants, one officer deployed his taser and the team was able to detain him and make a safe arrest. Officers were able to recover the weapon suspected in the incident. The man was taken to the hospital to be checked out then booked into the Douglas County Jail. Police have not released his name or place of employment.
