SEWARD COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a juvenile in connection with a gun incident near a school.
Just after 10a.m. Wednesday, police received a call about a juvenile throwing a gun over a fence across from Liberal High School, 1611 West 2nd Street, according to a media release.
Officers responded to the scene, located the boy and an unloaded firearm. Investigators learned the boy took the gun from his parent's home and was going to show it to friends at Liberal High School.
His friends told him not to bring the gun to school because they were on lockdown for a reported school shooting. Police responded to hoax calls of active shooters nearly a dozen schools in Kansas on Wednesday.
Afraid he would be accused of the school shooting, the boy tossed the gun over the fence. A concerned citizen saw this and called police.
An affidavit seeking charges of possession of a firearm by a juvenile and possession of narcotics will be forwarded to the Seward County District Attorney.
