SEDGWICK COUNTY - The Wichita Police Department has arrested two suspects in connection with a shooting and have placed two children in protective custody.
Just after 5:30p.m. Monday, police responded to a shooting in the 2300 block of East MacArthur Road in Wichita, according to a media release. Once officers arrived, they located a 39-year-old Wichita man with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was then transported to a hospital for medical treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Through preliminary investigations, officers obtained a detailed description and learned of the suspects’ location at an apartment complex in the 4200 block of South Hydraulic Avenue.
Officers placed a 6-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy into police protective custody because of the home's living conditions.
Officers arrested both suspects identified as 42-year-old Matthew Contreras and 21-year-old Jose Cruz-Ortega without incident.
Police will present the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney for charging consideration.
