COWLEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal shooting and have a suspect in custody.
Just after 9:30 p.m. Friday, police responded to the intersection of Madison Avenue and the U.S. 77 bypass for a report of a shooting, according to a media release.
They found a vehicle there with a passenger identified as Samuel Hutton, 38, of Arkansas City who had been shot. Arkansas City Fire-EMS transported Hutton to South Central Kansas Medical Center where he later died.
During subsequent investigation, police identified 40-year-old James Lyle Clark as a suspect in the shooting, which they determined had occurred at his residence at 1325 South A Street in southeast Arkansas City.
Officers applied for and executed a search warrant overnight at Clark’s residence. They worked through the night to attempt to locate Clark.
Just after 5:30a.m., with the assistance of the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, they located and arrested Clark without east of Arkansas City.
Clark is being held in the Cowley County Jail on requested charges of one count of felony second-degree murder.
