Fentanyl toxicity: Kansas man charged in toddler's death

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas man accused in the June death of a 22-month old made a court appearance Monday.

Calvin Vick, 26 of Wichita, is charged with 1st degree murder and aggravated endangering a child, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office. 

On June 21, 2022, police were dispatched to a local hospital after the victim, a 22-month-old boy arrived unresponsive, according to a media release from Wichita. Police. At the time of death, it was unknown how the child died.

Last week lab results returned that  confirmed the 22 month old died from Fentanyl Toxicity and a warrant was issued for Vick's arrest.

The Special Investigations Bureau Community Response Team (SIBCRT) located Vick and arrested him without incident on Thursday.   

Online records also indicate he is being held for kidnapping, domestic battery and criminal threat.  Police have not released details on the cause of death or Vick's relationship to the boy.

 Attorneys are scheduled to discuss the case on June 16. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
