12-year-old faces charges after alleged threat at Kan. middle school

COFFEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities and USD 243 officials are investigating an alleged school threat.

On Monday, the Coffey County Sheriff's Office received information of a verbal threat that was made by an elementary student toward other elementary students in Waverly, Kansas, according to a media release.

According to statements made by the students to law enforcement, during the school day a verbal altercation ensued, during which a 12-year-old student became angry and stated he would use a firearm to cause harm to several students.

No students involved were injured and no physical altercation was reported during the incident.

Law enforcement and school officials identified the student and criminal charges are being considered for adjudication, pending completion of the investigation.  A completed report will be submitted to the Coffey County Attorney for review.
