Pilot hospitalized after helicopter crash in Kansas field

GRANT COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 2:30p.m. Tuesday in Grant County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1970 Bell OH58A helicopter used for agricultural aerial spraying and piloted by Ripson Wong, 47, Henderson, Nevada, was applying chemical to a field west of Kansas 25 one mile south of County Road 1, 16 miles south of Lakin.

The helicopter was eastbound at the east edge of the field where the chemicals were being applied and struck a power line, became unstable and crashed in a wheat field.

The helicopter came to rest on its left side facing east, approximately 434 feet east of the two track field entrance road.

EMS transported Wong to Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. The accident remains under investigation.
