Kan. pilot, 2 passengers avoid injury after small plane crash

BUTLER COUNTY—A pilot and two passengers avoided injury after a small plane crash just before 11a.m. Friday in Butler County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1979 Cessna 182 Q piloted by Alexander Luinstra, 22, Benton,  was northbound after taking off from Stearman Field.

The aircraft suddenly lost power and its altitude dropped rapidly. The pilot attempted an emergency landing in a plowed field and landed on its wheels.

The nose of the aircraft struck the ground and the aircraft flipped forward, landing on its top at Southwest Meadowlark Road between Southwest 30th Street and Southwest 40th Street.

Luinstra and two passsengers were not injured.
