Teen accused of killing 43-year-old Kansas man

SHAWNEE COUNTY– Law enforcement investigating a deadly shooting in Topeka have made an arrest.

On Thursday, police arrested 18-year-old  Dasanee D. Curry of Topeka for the shooting death of 43-year-old Steven R. Warden, 43, of Topeka,  according to Police Lt. Edward Stanley.

Just after 9:30p.m. Monday, police responded to the area of 13th and Western Avenue and found Warden suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Curry is being held in the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Murder in the 1st degree, Attempted Murder in the 1st degree, Aggravated Child Endangerment, Criminal Discharge of a Firearm at an Occupied Dwelling and Criminal Damage to Property. 

This is the 7th homicide investigation in Topeka in 2024, according to Police Lt. Donna Eubanks.
