The Champions Indoor Football League received a shake up when it was announced this morning that effective immediately the Oklahoma Flying Aces would not be participating in the 2021 season.

This announcement came with the news that in the stead of the Aces, the Dodge City Law would be approved to rejoin the CIF after a three year absence from the league.

For the Aces, the decision to withdraw was explicitly financial, with head coach and managing partner Richard Davis telling the league that the insurance rates were much higher than he anticipated.

“We are working on having the rates adjusted to a more sustainable rate but unfortunately it will not happen in time for the 2021 season,” Davis said.

Dodge City will re-enter the CIF for the first time since 2017 but it is unclear who will play for the Law, a team that ended their time in the league as a perennial playoff team.

“The CIF board had approved the Law to return to the league next season and when this issue came up last week we immediately got support from our partners in Dodge City,” Director of League Operations Todd Walkenhorst told the league this week. “We’re excited to be back in Dodge City this season.

Prior to changes in the schedule, this will heavily affect the Liberty in the month of May, as with the team losing two games against the Aces, their trip to Sioux City on the 15th will be their only scheduled game all month for the time being.
