Police: Kan. man who fired shotgun at girlfriend found dead

DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a man's death in Douglas County.

Just after 9:30p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the 100 block of Ames Street in Baldwin City in reference to a disturbance with weapons, according to a media release.

While Baldwin City Police Officers and Douglas County Sheriff Deputies responded to the area, a 25-year-old female victim provided information that her 31-year-old boyfriend had fired a shotgun at her during an argument.

The victim was able to leave the duplex and seek help at a neighbor’s residence.  Officers and deputies tried to contact her boyfriend at the residence and received no response.

With the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office K9, officers entered the residence and found the boyfriend dead of an apparent gunshot wound, according to the release.  A full investigation is underway to determine all the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police have not released the name of the man who died.
