RENO COUNTY —The Hutchinson Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying an unidentified woman whose remains were discovered earlier this year on the city’s east side, according to a media release from police.

On January 2, 2025, officers responded to a call about a deceased person in the 1600 block of East 1st Avenue. When they arrived, they found human remains at the location. The scene was secured and processed, and the remains were sent to the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.

So far, investigators say the cause of death remains undetermined. However, they have found no signs of trauma prior to death. Forensic analysis indicates the woman—currently referred to as Jane Doe—is likely a Caucasian female, probably over 50 years old, with wavy or slightly curly brown hair that has gray streaks. Investigators believe she may have been deceased for six months to a year before she was found.

A dental examination revealed that the woman had severe dental issues, including badly worn, fractured, and decayed teeth—details that may help identify her.

Despite months of investigative work, the woman’s identity remains unknown. The Hutchinson Police Department says they are committed to finding answers for Jane Doe and providing closure for her family and loved ones.

Anyone with information that may help identify her is encouraged to contact the Hutchinson Police Department at 620-694-2822, their local law enforcement agency, or Crime Stoppers of Reno County at 800-222-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the P3Tips App or by texting RENOKS to 738477 to receive a link to an anonymous form. Standard message rates may apply.

The investigation is ongoing, and police say more information will be released as it becomes available.
