JOHNSON COUNTY, Missouri —Law enforcement are investigating a deadly domestic incident involving an Airman assigned to Whiteman Airforce base that left two dead and one injured.

Just before 7:30a.m. Wednesday, the Johnson County, Missouri central dispatch received two calls simultaneously about a domestic disturbance in progress in the 700 Block of Cedar Drive in Warrensburg, according to a media release from police.

Officers responded and located the suspect who was armed with a weapon and running south toward Hale Lake Road. The suspect fired their weapon multiple times in the area of the officers as they arrived on the scene. A courageous bystander identified as Tony Barron, attempted to intervene prior to officers arrival. He was shot and killed by the suspect.

Officers established a perimeter and advised local school and businesses to lockdown.

Just after 8:30a.m., officers found the suspect south of the residence. He was deceased with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  A woman injured during the incident was treated for injuries from Western Missouri Medical Center. No officers or other first responders were injured.  Whiteman Air Force Base confirmed that an “off-base, off-duty” Airman was involved in the incident.  Police released no additional details.
