
TOPEKA —One person was injured in a house fire Thursday in Topeka.
Just before 6p.m. on Thursday, fire crews found smoke and flames coming from the two-story house at 833 SE Chestnut Street in Topeka, according to a Fire Marshal Alan Stahl.
Firefighters performed a primary search and found no occupants. Three adults and one dog were able to escape prior to the fire department’s arrival. American Medical Response transported one man to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the fire.
The total damage is estimated to be $26,000, with $21,000 associated with structural loss and $5,000 associated with content loss. Cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fire officials did not find working smoke detectors in the home, according to Stahl.
