
RILEY COUNTY —The investigation into the aggravated arson which occurred on June 13, at Walmart, 101 E Bluemont Avenue in Manhattan, is still an active investigation, according to a statement from the Riley County Police Department.
The RCPD has forwarded an affidavit to the Pottawatomie County District Attorney’s Office for review and consideration for prosecution.
The Riley County Police Department is leading the investigation into the incident while working closely with the Manhattan Fire Department.
Just before 5p.m. on June 13, the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to a fire reported at Walmart, 101 Bluemont Avenue, according to a media release.
Upon arrival, crews found people evacuating and light smoke showing at the doors. Employees were extinguishing the fire as crews arrived at the middle of the store where the fire occurred.
Crews ensured that extinguishment was complete by overhauling the area and taking smoldering material outside.
Just before 7p.m., Walmart was still closed while fire crews evacuate smoke from inside the building. No injuries were reported. There was considerable smoke damage.
Riley County Police Department, Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office, and Pottawatomie County EMS responded to assist.
