Sheriff: Inmate who escaped custody in NW Kansas is back in jail

ELLIS COUNTY —Juan Olivares Herrera, 22, is back in the Ellis County Jail in Hays after escaping custody Saturday night, according Ellis County Sheriff Scott Braun. Herrerra was taken into custody Sunday afternoon without incident.

Herrera escaped from deputies while being transported from Hays Medical Center and was seen running south on 22nd Street and Canterbury. Herrera was being held on requested charges of domestic battery, aggravated robbery and disorderly conduct.

 Law enforcement described Herrera as a  Hispanic male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is approximately 5-feet-8 inches tall and weighs 100 pounds.

He also has a large black and grey watercolor-type tattoo on his left shoulder/chest, last known to have a mustache/goatee. He has a distinct leg injury and was last known to be wearing jail oranges and handcuffs.
