SHAWNEE COUNTY —One person died in a fire in Topeka.
Just before 6:30a.m. Sunday, crews responded to a reported house fire at 1812 SW Burnett Road, according to a media release.Upon arrival, crews observed smoke and flames coming from the single-story home. Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire.
During a primary search of the residence, firefighters located one occupant who was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Smoke detectors were not found in the structure.
