Man accused of fatal New Year's Day knife attack at Kansas home

JOHNSON COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a murder on New Year's Day in Johnson County.

Just before 2a.m. Thursday, police responded to a residence in the 16900 block of Walter Street in Gardner on reports of an armed disturbance. The caller advised the 911 operator that a man had been stabbed.  Upon arrival, the officer contacted the occupants of the home and observed a man on the ground with serious injuries. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A preliminary investigation has revealed that a disturbance ensued inside the home, which led to the victim being stabbed. The victim has been identified as Jason A. Rosado, a 28-year-old of Overland Park.

A suspect identified as 34-year-old Kavin Moreno was taken into custody on a requested charge of First Degree Murder. He is being held on a $1 million bond and is due in court on Monday, according to online jail records.
