Sheriff: Deputies find drugs, loaded firearm during Kan. traffic stop

SHAWNEE COUNTY— Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple charges after a traffic stop.

Just after 11p.m. on Dec. 6 a deputy conducted a traffic stop near NW Topeka Boulevard and NW Morse Street on a silver 2006 Toyota Avalon with an expired license plate, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

During the investigation, a K9 unit assisted and a deputy found illegal narcotics and a loaded firearm.

The passenger, Valerie L. Shaffer, 35, of Hoyt, was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections for a warrant out of Jackson County and requested charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
