FINNEY COUNTY—The Red Cross is assisting families in southwest Kansas after an apartment fire in Garden City.
Just before 8:30p.m. Sept. 6, the Garden City Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a fire in an apartment building in 300 block of College Street in Garden City, according to a media release.
Upon arrival, Command 1 identified a two-story apartment building with heavy smoke and fire visible. Fire crews conducted an offensive fire attack to the upstairs apartments while simultaneously completing primary search and rescue on the apartments with physical fire, followed by surrounding apartments.
All occupants of the apartments were found to be safely evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews.
Fire Marshal Robertson responded to the scene for investigation. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. No injuries were reported, and no damage estimates are known at this time.
American Red Cross was requested to respond and assist with the displaced families.
