KANSAS CITY—Authorities are investigating the cause of a fatal fire at a church in Kansas City.
Just before 2:30a.m. Saturday, crews responded to a reported building fire in the 2400 block of Chestnut in Kansas City, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.
On arrival crews reported smoke and fire showing from what was believed to be a vacant church and initiated interior operations using two handlines. The fire was brought under control quickly. During the search of the structure a fatality victim was discovered. KCPD Bomb and Arson along with their Detective and Crime scene investigative unit was called to the scene.
Kansas City Police are investigating the cause of the fire and the cause of death.
Bomb and Arson were initially called due to the type of structure, a church as standard protocol. Police have not released any addition details.
