
SHAWNE COUNTY —Authorities re investigating the cause of a house fire in Topeka.
Just after 1:30a.m. Thursday, firefighters responded to a report of an automatic fire alarm activation at 2202 SW Brookfield Street, according to Battalion Chief Ty Forshee.
Crews found smoke coming from the bedroom of a single-story home and quickly extinguished the fire. While searching the home firefighters located and rescued a woman and her son.. The female resident was treated by an AMR crew and taken to the hospital for further treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The home did have working smoke detectors, according to Forshee.
