WABAUNSEE COUNTY—A Kansas sheriff's office acted quickly to help students aboard a school bus that broke down in triple digit heat.
Just after 3:30p.m. Tuesday, the Wabaunsee County Sheriff's office was notified of an occupied, disabled school bus westbound on Interstate 70 near the Paxico exit with 24 students aboard and no air conditioning.
The sheriff's office thanked the Dispatcher Jen, four deputies and the County Clerk Abby Amick who immediately coordinated dispatch of two transportation vans to help get the kids off the bus, out of the heat, and somewhere cool and safe while replacement transportation was arranged. That cool temporary somewhere was also in sheriff's office patrol vehicles.
Mission completed upon replacement bus arriving. Everyone was transferred, everybody was doing well, and the kids were on their way
