Kansas man dies after ejected in 2-vehicle rollover crash

DOUGLAS COUNTY —A Kansas man died in an accident just before 2:30a.m. Friday in Douglas County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2024 Kia Optima driven by Nash McKnight, 26, Topeka, was westbound on Interstate 70 approximately 2 miles east of the Topeka Turnpike Service Center.

The driver failed to maintain the driving lane and sideswiped a westbound 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Wyatt Vestal, 20, Olathe.

After impact the Mercury traveled to the left and struck the barrier wall. The Kia rolled, traveled off the road, the driver was ejected and the car struck a rock wall.

McKnight was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported Forensic Medical. Vestal was not injured.  McKnight was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
