Teen driver dies after crash with semi on Kansas highway

HARPER COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 1p.m. Wednesday in Harper County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol  reported a  2014 Nissan Altima driven by Thomas Morgan Burel, 17, McKinney, Texas, was southbound on Kansas 14 two miles north of Harper.

The car's right tire dropped off the west edge of the roadway. The Nissan came back on the roadway, traveled across the southbound lane and into the northbound lanes where it struck a 2008 Kenworth semi driven by James B. Long, 60, Sunset Estates, Saskatchewan.

Burel was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Prairie Rose Funeral Home. Long was not injured. Burel was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
