In 1889, a pair of powerful tornadoes struck central Kansas.
The first twister, an F3 with a track five miles long, leveled two farms between eight and five miles southwest of McPherson.
The second was a violent F4. It's track was 25 miles long and around 440 yards wide as it tore through Marion and Chase counties. This second twister destroyed 10 farms. On one of the farms, every building was swept away. The second twister killed two people and injured four.
