Police: Kan. woman forced to drive gunman from crime scene

KANSAS CITY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting and continue to search for the suspect who may have forced a woman to drive him from the crime scene.

Just before 6:30p.m.Thursday, police were dispatched to a shooting in the 4700 Block of State Avenue, according to police spokesperson Nancy Chartrand.

Upon arrival, officers found a black male in his early 40s in the parking lot of the parking lot of the Royal Inn. EMS transported him to a local hospital in critical condition.

Investigators believe the person of interest identified as  39-year-old Matthew R. Walker 'Love" left the area in a  1993 teal and silver, Chevy Suburban with Kansas Tag 690KRE. The vehicle has plastic covering the rear passenger and side window.

Police believe Walker forced the driver of the suburban at gunpoint to drive him from the crime scene, according to Chartrand. The driver, victim is identified as 34-year-old Candi Hunter.

Walker described as 6-foot-1, 260 pounds and should be considered armed and dangerous.
