Update: Kan. man struck, killed attempting to assist non-injury crash

MCPHERSON COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 6:30 a.m. Thursday in McPherson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Chevy Silverado driven by Jeffrey G. Killgore, 56, El Dorado, was  northbound  on Interstate 135 one mile north of Moundridge.

The driver stopped on the right hand shoulder to assist a non-injured driver who had struck the guardrail.

A 2010 Toyota Tundra driven by Sergio R. Moreno, 41, Wichita,  struck Killgore as the Toyota was entering the scene.

Killgore was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Sedgwick County Coroner's Office. 

EMS transported Moreno to a Wichita hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.

UPDATE: Northbound Interstate 135 near Moundridge has been reopened following a fatality accident this morning, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
