T-Bird women fall in rare Thursday night contest

IOLA – Returning to action following a 24-hour postponement, the Cloud County Community College women's basketball team would drop a 73-54 road decision to Allen Community College in Iola on Thursday.

Cloud County drops to 9-19 overall and 4-14 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while the Red Devils improved to 8-18 overall and 3-14 in conference play.

Trailing 43-29 at the half, the T-Birds would be unable to make a run in the second half and get back into the game as the Red Devils would manage to outscore CCCC 30-25 in the final 20 minutes of action. Allen County would manage to outscore Cloud County 24-3 from three point range and hold a 52-45 advantage in rebounds while also getting 42 points from bench players. The T-Birds would finish the game with a 31.3 percent (20-of-64) shooting percentage while going 13-of-25 (52.0 percent) from the charity stripe.

34 of Cloud County's 54 points would come from Haven Hamilton (17 points) and LaKya Leslie (16 points) with Leslie grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds. Sophomore Lydia Ostenson would finish the game with seven points to be the only other T-Bird to score more than five points in the contest as CCCC would only score 14 points from bench players.

What's next?

The 2020 home finale for Cloud County is next up on the schedule as the T-Birds will host Independence Community College at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Independence is 14-10 overall and 11-6 in the KJCCC following a 72-53 home loss to Coffeyville on Wednesday night.
