Tip helps police arrest Kan. teen with gun at school

SEDGWICK COUNTY —The Wichita Police Department (WPD) has arrested a 15-year-old boy  for criminal possession of a firearm by a juvenile and possession of a firearm on school grounds.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the WPD School Resource Officer (SRO) at Heights High, 5301 N. Hillside, was contacted by school staff regarding an anonymous tip received of the 15-year-old male having a gun at the school, according to officer Charley Davidson.

The USD 259 security personnel and SRO followed up on the tip, which led to the arrest.  A handgun was also recovered.  There were no threats made to any students, no threats of violence on school grounds and no disruptions to the school.  Furthermore, no one was injured.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
