Tiger men claim six top-3 finishes at NWMSU Open

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Fort Hays State Men's Track and Field competed at the Northwest Open, Friday and Saturday. The Tigers had six individuals claim top three finishes in events, while Ryan Stanley and Mark Faber posted provisional marks in the pole vault.

Second-place finishers for the Tigers included Justin Moore (5,000 meters, Ethan Lang (600 Yards, and the distance medley relay team of Guillaume Plagneux, Lang, Aaron Mangan, and Caleb Carrasco. Third-place finishes went to Robbie Schmidt (5,000 meters, Mangan (800 meters, and Stanley (pole vault).

Moore covered the 5,000 in 15:08.88, while Schmidt followed in 15:11.30. Shawn Kiptoo of Iowa Western Community College had the winning pace of 15:02.04. The distance medley team posted a time of 10:18.58, only behind Missouri Southern (9:56.42).

Lang covered the 600 yards in a time of 1:13.43, just over a second behind the winner Michael Garrison of Ottawa University. Mangan ran a time of 1:55.25 in the 800 meters, less than two seconds behind the winning pace of 1:53.65 by Collin Webber of Pittsburg State.

Though they finished third and sixth among the competition, Stanley and Faber posted provisional marks in the pole vault. Stanley's effort of 16'1.75" was short of his season-best 16'6" from back in December. He entered the meet ranked fifth nationally in the event. The nation's national leader, Dean Howard of Missouri Southern, won with a height of 16'10.75", which topped his best effort of the season. Faber was right on the Division II provisional qualifying standard of 15'7.75".

Looking to the schedule next week, FHSU has meets at Wichita State Thursday, Nebraska-Kearney Friday, and Pittsburg State Saturday all listed.
