COLBY – In a battle between top-25 nationally ranked teams, the number 25 ranked Cloud County Community College wrestling team would drop a 25-19 decision to number 19 ranked Colby Community College in Kansas Jayhawk Community College dual action inside the Colby Community Center in Colby on Wednesday.

The 10 matches on the evening would be a split between the T-Birds and Trojans with each team taking five matches as the difference would ultimately come down to bonus points in the matches. Four of the five wins for CCCC would come as decision victories while Colby would pick up extra points in four of their five matches including three falls to edge the T-Birds.

At 125 pounds, Cloud County would get a major decision victory from number nine ranked Blayne Harris as the sophomore would nearly miss out on a technical fall with a last-second takedown attempt getting beat out by the final whistle with the score ending in a 19-5 victory for Harris. Blake Leiszler would then come up for CCCC at 133 pounds, managing to pull an upset of number eight ranked Rhett Miner to earn the only bonus points of the evening for the T-Birds as Cloud County would go up 10-0 after two of the 10 matches.

Colby would get on the board at 141 pounds with a fall in 48 seconds, and add a 12-0 major decision at 149 pounds to tie things at 10-10 before taking their first lead of the dual with a second fall at 157 pounds. Cloud County would manage to get three team points back at 165 pounds as Quentin Jiner would earn a 10-3 decision over Kody Hahn to make the score 16-13, but the Trojans would have a response once again with a fall and decision at 174 and 184 pounds to grab a 25-13 lead. With the T-Birds needing a fall in each of the final two matches to try and send things to a tie-breaker, both matches would end up as CCCC victories but in the form of decisions. Kevin Murry would take a high-scoring affair at 197 pounds by a final score of 19-14 while Elwin Trejo would earn a 3-0 victory over Jesse Quilimaco at 285 pounds to end the dual with Cloud County coming up short in the team score.
