Sheriff: Speed, alcohol a factor in fatal Kansas crash

RENO COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Saturday in Reno County.

Just after 10p.m. deputies with the Reno County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the area of 8000 East 17th Avenue, Hutchinson, Reno County for an injury accident after a man who had been injured in the accident walked to a residence in the area to ask for help, according to a media release from the Reno County Sheriff's Department.

It was learned there were two men in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The vehicle driven by Corey Glenn Ryker, 22, South Sioux City, Nebraska was eastbound on 17th Avenue when he lost control. The vehicle entered the south ditch and it is believed it overturned, according to the sheriff's department.

The vehicle came to rest on the driver's side of the chassis. As a result of the accident the cab of the vehicle became detached from the chassis and came to rest in front of the chassis. It is believed that neither man in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. As a result both occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

Ryker was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger identified as  Logan M. Nelson, 22, Waterbury, Nebraska.was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

It is believed speed and alcohol may have played a factor in the accident.
