Police catch suspect wanted for shootings at 2 Kan. house parties

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting a house party  and have a suspect in custody.

Just before 1:30 a.m. Dec. 22, police responded to a shooting call in the 2000 block of North Pine Grove, according to officer Charley Davidson.  Upon arrival, officers located a 21-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg.  He was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment of a non-life-threating injury and later released.

Through the investigation, investigators learned of  19-year-old Jalen Johnson’s involvement in the incident. 

On Wednesday, police located Johnson at a home in the 1600 block of South Pinecrest. They arrested him without incident.  Officers also recovered two handguns and ammunition at the home.

The Maize Police Department (MPD) has also arrested Johnson on charges of aggravated battery, six counts of aggravated assault, and three counts of criminal damage to property, stemming from a shooting on Sunday, Jan. 5 at a house party in  in Maize, Kansas that injured a teenager.

Johnson is being held on requested charges of aggravated battery and criminal discharge of a firearm. 

WPD investigators are working to determine if Johnson was involved in any other related type incidents.
